Manchester United boss Ruben Amorim departed the club after 14 months in charge – but how does his record compare to previous managers?
Amorim’s sacking came after his side’s 1-1 draw against Leeds United in the Premier League on Sunday, with the club sixth in the table.
United had won only two of their last six league games, beating Newcastle and Wolves away in December.
The club has a 40% win percentage in the Premier League this season, winning eight of the 20 games played so far.
In the 63 games under Amorim, United won 24 matches, drew 18 and lost on 21 occasions – earning the 40-year-old Portuguese the unfortunate record of the worst win ratio (31.9%) of any permanent United boss.
His record of 1.23 points per game in the Premier League is the lowest of all managers at Old Trafford since Sir Alex Ferguson left in 2013.
He also has the worst goals conceded per game ratio in the league (1.53) and the lowest league clean sheet ratio (15%) of any of any United manager.
Since Amorim’s appointment, only three ever-present sides have won fewer points than United (58) – Spurs (46), West Ham (45) and Wolves (39).
United finished 15th in Amorim’s first season in charge and also reached the Europa League final, where they lost 1-0 to Tottenham in Bilbao.

Erik ten Hag took charge of Manchester United for over two years – winning 70 of the 128 games played under his leadership.
Their win ratio in the Premier League during that time was 51.8% – the third highest of permanent managers at the club since Ferguson.
He guided United to a third place finish in his first season and earned their first piece of silverware in six seasons with a 2-0 win against Newcastle in the 2023 Carabao Cup final. He also took the Red Devils to the FA Cup final, losing 2-1 to rivals Manchester City during that campaign.
The Dutchman made amends by beating City in the following season’s FA Cup final, but Ten Hag was sacked after a poor start to the 2024-25 season, ending with 1.72 points per game during his tenure.

Former forward Ole Gunnar Solskjaer became the club’s 25th manager in history in December 2018.
Solskjaer oversaw a win rate of 54.2% as his side won 91 of the 168 games played across all competitions.
The Norwegian had a 51.4% win ratio in the top-flight, but his failure to earn silverware and challenge for the title proved to be his undoing.
United reached the semi-final of the FA Cup in his second season in charge and also reached the Europa League final a year later. He recorded his best league finish by finishing second in the Premier League in 2020-21.
But Solskjaer departed in November 2021 after a run of just one win in seven Premier League games.

Jose Mourinho managed Manchester United for two and a half years between May 2016 and December 2018.
During Mourinho’s leadership, the club had a win rate of 58.3% across all competitions, winning 84 of the 144 games played – the highest percentage since Ferguson’s reign.
In the Premier League, his win ratio was 53.8%, again the highest since Ferguson’s leadership. His side’s points per game was 1.89 in the Premier League.
Mourinho won the Community Shield and the Europa League in his first season. In the 2017-18 season, his side finished second, but lost the 2018 FA Cup final to Chelsea.
Mourinho was ultimately sacked in his third year of leadership after his side collected 26 points in their first 17 league games that season.

Louis van Gaal took charge of Manchester United for two years until he was sacked days after winning the FA Cup to be replaced by Jose Mourinho.
Van Gaal oversaw a mixed period of results on the pitch – winning 54 games during his time in charge and earning a win rate of 52.4%.
He had a 51.3% win percentage in the league (1.79 points per game) as Van Gaal oversaw fourth and fifth place league finishes and a domestic trophy success too.

David Moyes was handed the keys at Old Trafford after legendary boss Ferguson brought an end to his 26-year association with the club.
His tenure ended when the Scotsman was sacked after 10 months, winning 27 of the 51 games played in all competitions (52.9% win ratio).
Moyes’s side won the 2013 Community Shield in his first game in charge, but was sacked with the club in seventh with four matches left in the season.
It was also the first time a United manager had been sacked since November 1986.

Sir Alex Ferguson retired in 2013 after 26 years in charge of Manchester United.
He took charge of 1,503 games across all competitions, winning 897 games and drawing on 338 occasions.
The Scotsman boasts an impressive 59.7% win rate – the highest of any permanent Manchester United boss.
His win rate in the Premier League was even higher at 65.2% after earning an impressive 2.16 points per game.
During his tenure, United won 13 league titles, two Champions Leagues, five FA Cups and four League Cups.
