Liverpool winger Mohamed Salah has congratulated Tottenham Hotspur head coach Ange Postecoglou following Spurs’ UEFA Europa League win over Manchester United.

Earlier this Wednesday (May 21), Spurs ended their 17-year-long drought for a trophy after defeating Manchester United 1-0 in the Europa League final. Tottenham forward Brennan Johnson scored the crucial goal in the 42nd minute of the continental final.

Minutes after the end of the Europa League final, Salah posted on X:

Salah’s comments referred to Postecoglou early-season remarks about him always leading his team to a trophy in his second season in charge. The 59-year-old Australian initially said earlier last August (h/t Metro):

Last September, Postecoglou changed his stance and told Sky Sports:

Postecoglou, who joined Tottenham in 2023, has coached clubs such as Scottish side Celtic, Japanese club Yokohama F. Marinos, and Australian side Brisbane Roar in the past. He lifted trophies with each of those clubs in his second campaign in charge.

Tottenham, who will compete in the UEFA Champions League next term, are in 17th place in the 2024-25 Premier League table. Tottenham are on 38 points from 37 league outings and will face Brighton & Hove Albion in their final league clash on Sunday (May 25).

Liverpool are reportedly close to roping in Bayer Leverkusen star Jeremie Frimpong as the Reds have triggered the player’s £29.5 release clause.

Asked to opine on Frimpong, Liverpool ace Cody Gakpo said (h/t Mirror):

When asked if Frimpong will be the Reds’ fourth Dutchman, he replied:

Frimpong, an ex-Celtic right-back, has recorded 30 goals and 44 assists in 190 appearances across all competitions for Bayer Leverkusen so far.
