Team India and Bengaluru FC goalkeeper, Gurpreet Singh Sandhu, on his social media account recently posted photos of him training in Norway with his former side StabƦk Fotball, which currently plays in the Norwegian first division league, which is the second tier in the country.

Sandhu, who recently played the Indian Super League Cup final against Mohun Bagan Super Giants and finished runner-up with his side BFC, has decided to spend two months in Norway to keep in shape and form. In an exclusive conversation with RevSportz, Sandhu said, ā€œTwo months of doing nothing is not good. It’s better to push myself.ā€

The Bengaluru FC shot-stopper would be training under his former goalkeeping coach, Espen Granli, for whom he has immense respect. He said, ā€œIf not for him I wouldn’t be here.ā€

Sandhu suddenly posting pictures of him wearing his former team’s jersey and training in their grounds could perhaps raise a question whether he went there for a trial. However, he cleared all doubts, saying, ā€œTwo months till pre-season. Only training.ā€

Sandhu played for this Norwegian side between 2014 and 2017, then in the top tier of Norwegian football, and represented them in a UEFA Europa League game, making him the only Indian to have achieved this feat. After his Norway stint, he joined Bengaluru FC in 2017 and has been an integral part of the side since.

Praising the StabƦk management he said, ā€œI have a goodwill with the club from my years back in the day, they are always super welcoming if I want to train with them.ā€
