Gujarat Titans (GT) played some fantastic cricket in their first 12 games in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 and were looking certain for a top-two finish. However, they lost their last two matches in the round-robin phase of the tournament and will be hoping for Lucknow Super Giants to beat Royal Challengers Bengaluru on Tuesday, May 27, to help them punch their ticket to Qualifier 1. If Rajat Patidar & Co. emerge victorious in this clash, the 2022 champions will have to play the Eliminator, which won’t give them the luxury of losing a game in the Playoffs.
After producing some brilliant bowling performances during the season, despite Rashid Khan’s underwhelming campaign, Gujarat bowlers faltered in the last three games, conceding 664 runs. While Shubman Gill and Sai Sudharsan bailed them out in the game against Delhi Capitals, chasing down a 200-run target in 19 overs without losing a wicket, they could not inspire their team to victories in the last two matches.
Former Australia cricketer Tom Moody lauded R Sai Kishore, the only one to have taken at least a wicket in each of Gujarat’s last three games, for his consistency. While Prasidh Krishna is second in the race for the Purple Cap with 23 wickets, Mohammed Siraj has blown hot and cold for his fifteen. Moody opined that the Titans’ bowlers are losing form at the wrong time in the tournament, and the lack of bowling partnerships is hurting the Shubman Gill-led side.
“It is a concern that a number of their bowlers are losing form at the wrong time. Coming into the finals, one area of your game you want to be absolutely confident with is your bowling attack, and everyone not looking over their shoulder but looking to take the responsibility themselves. And I look at their attack and really there’s only one bowler that’s bowling well, and the rest are trying to find form,” Moody said on ESPNcricinfo Time Out.
“And that’s probably being a little bit harsh on Sai Kishore because I think he’s been quite consistent, but it’s nearly like his bowling has been swept away along with many other bowlers purely because they haven’t been able to build the most important thing, and that’s those partnerships with the ball,” he added.
