Despite Prasidh Krishna’s noteworthy performance with the ball, Gujarat Titans slipped to their second straight loss, against Chennai Super Kings, in IPL 2025. The 83-run loss hurts their chances of progressing to Qualifier 1 of the playoffs, as they ended their league campaign with 18 points from 14 matches. In pursuit of a massive target of 231, GT could muster 147.

For CSK, Ayush Mhatre (17-ball 34), Devon Conway (35-ball 52), Urvil Patel (19-ball 37) and Dewald Brevis (23-ball 57) made vital contributions. Mhatre provided the foundation stone by tonking Arshad Khan for 28 runs in a single over. Even after he was dismissed by a clever change of pace from Prasidh, Conway and Urvil stitched a partnership of 63 for the second wicket. GT didn’t help their cause by bowling too straight or drifting down the leg.

After Urvil and Conway were dismissed, Brevis put on an impressive exhibition of stroke-play to take CSK well past the score of 200. Mohammed Siraj was smacked for two sixes and a boundary. Arshad, Gerald Coetzee and Rashid Khan were also punished. Eventually, off the last ball of the innings, he fell to a short ball from Prasidh.

Prasidh was the only GT bowler who kept the opponent on a tight leash. He mixed up hard lengths with slower ones and a hint of swing upfront to finish with figures of 2-22 from four overs. The economy rates of the rest of their bowlers read: 11.8, 21, 11.3, 11.5, 10.5 and 13.

GT’s batters crumbled under pressure, losing wickets at regular intervals. Sai Sudharsan top-scored with 41, but he didn’t get much support from the rest of the batting unit. The next highest score was just 20 by Arshad. Even the likes of Shubman Gill and Jos Buttler couldn’t make an impression, getting dismissed for 13 and five, respectively.

Anshul Kamboj was the go-to man for the yellow brigade, bagging the key scalps of Gill and Sherfane Rutherford. He bowled a probing line and length and extracted just enough movement with the new ball. Noor Ahmed, who overtook Prasidh as the leading wicket-taker during the game, chipped in with three as CSK finished their disastrous campaign on a high.

Brief scores: CSK 230/5 in 20 overs (Dewald Brevis 57, Devon Conway 52; Prasidh Krishna 2-22) beat GT 147 in 18.3 overs (Sai Sudharsan 41; Anshul Kamboj 3-13, Noor Ahmed 3-21) by 83 runs.
