The Ghana Football Association, in collaboration with Coachhene Sports Club and Prince Lamona Consulting, has launched a new talent identification programme targeted at young footballers of Ghanaian descent living in the United Kingdom.

The two-day initiative forms part of the GFA’s broader strategy to strengthen ties with the Ghanaian diaspora while creating development pathways for talented players who could contribute to Ghana’s future national teams.

Founder of Coachhene Sports Club, Emmanuel Afranie, described the programme as a major opportunity for emerging players to connect with Ghana football.

“There are many gifted young players of Ghanaian heritage across the UK who deserve the opportunity to be seen, guided, and connected to the future of Ghana football,” he said.

Communications Director of Coachhene Sports Club, George Addo, highlighted the importance of engaging talented players within the diaspora.

“We believe there is immense talent within the diaspora, and this programme provides an important platform for identification, development, and long-term engagement,” he stated.

President of the GFA, Kurt Edwin Simeon-Okraku, said the initiative reflects the Association’s commitment to expanding Ghana’s talent pool and strengthening the future of the national teams through global scouting and development.

“This initiative represents an important step in identifying and nurturing talented young players of Ghanaian heritage across the diaspora. We are committed to creating opportunities for these players to connect with Ghana football and become part of the future of our game,” Okraku said.

GFA Technical Director, Prof. Joseph Kwame Mintah, also emphasised the importance of continuous education and player development.

“This program is a testament to our commitment to continuous learning and development,” Prof. Mintah noted.

The first stakeholder engagement meeting will take place on May 26, 2026 at the Ghana High Commission, bringing together parents, players, and key stakeholders to discuss the long-term vision and opportunities surrounding the initiative.
