PRESS RELEASE

GFA Stands in Solidarity with Christopher Antwi-Adjei

The Ghana Football Association (GFA) condemns in the strongest possible terms the racial abuse suffered by Ghanaian international Christopher Antwi-Adjei during Schalke 04’s German Cup tie against FC Lokomotive Leipzig.

Such abhorrent conduct, which was directed at Antwi-Adjei in the 13th minute of the match, has no place in football or in any sphere of society. Racism demeans the game we love and undermines the values of respect, equality, and unity that football seeks to promote.

We commend the swift actions taken by the referee, Schalke captain Kenan Karaman, and the match officials in halting the game, as well as the firm stance of Schalke 04 and its leadership in rejecting all forms of discrimination. We also note the commencement of police investigations and urge that the perpetrators are identified and face the full consequences of their actions.

The GFA stands firmly with Christopher Antwi-Adjei during this difficult time. His courage in speaking out against racial abuse sets an example for the fight against discrimination in football and beyond.

As the governing body of football in Ghana, we reiterate our unwavering commitment to promoting inclusivity, equality, and respect in the game. We call on all stakeholders—fans, clubs, federations, and governing bodies worldwide—to continue to work together in ensuring that football remains a safe space for all, regardless of race, colour, or background.
