President of the Football Association, Kurt Edwin Simeon-Okraku, on Friday, April 17, 2026, led a high-level delegation to pay a courtesy call on Ghana’s Minister for Sports and Recreation, Kofi Iddie Adams, in a meeting that underscored the nation’s ambition to host major continental and international football tournaments.

Accompanying him was newly appointed CAF General Secretary, Samson Adamu, highlighting the growing collaboration between Ghana and the Confederation of African Football.

The engagement focused on Ghana’s strategic vision to position itself as a premier destination for top-tier football competitions. Discussions centered on strengthening infrastructure, enhancing organizational capacity and leveraging football as a tool for national unity and development.

Minister Adams congratulated the new CAF General Secretary and welcomed him home to Ghana.

The Sports Minister emphasised the unifying power of football, noting its unique ability to inspire national pride while acknowledging the challenges that must be addressed to fully harness its potential.

CAF General Secretary Samson Adamu expressed his condolences to Berekum Chelsea FC and Ghana for the tragic lost of Dominic Frimpong.

The CAF General Secretary expressed strong confidence in Ghana’s readiness to rise to the occasion, reaffirming the Confederation’s commitment to supporting the country’s ambitions.

“Trust us any day and time because Ghana is home, and we expect your guidance to succeed,” he stated, signaling CAF’s willingness to collaborate closely with local authorities.

Adamu also stressed the urgent need for investment in football infrastructure, urging Ghana to prioritize the upgrading of pitches and modern sporting facilities to meet international standards.

He noted that such improvements are critical to enhancing the country’s chances of securing hosting rights for future tournaments.

CAF further pledged technical assistance to support Ghana’s infrastructure development, emphasizing that quality facilities remain a cornerstone for attracting global competitions.

The CAF General Secretary encouraged the formulation of a comprehensive and forward-looking strategic proposal, designed to position Ghana competitively in future hosting bids.

In attendance were GFA General Secretary, Lawyer Prosper Harrison Addo, Manager at CAF Professional Football Management, Emmanuel Dasoberi and Chief Director of the Ministry of Sports and Recreation, Mrs. Wilhemina Asamoah.
