The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has successfully organised a Football4Girls programme in Effia Kuma, within the Effia Kwesimintsim Municipal Assembly of the Western Region, as part of its Women’s Football Strategy aimed at nurturing young female talent and ensuring that every girl has the opportunity to play football without barriers.

The event drew strong support from key stakeholders, including members of the Western Regional Football Association Executive Council, women’s representative Madam Amy Fyn-Thompson, Michael Quarshie, District Football Association Chairman for Effia Kwesimintsim Boniface Anwilo, Western Regional P.E. and Sports Coordinator an Richard Ankama, P.E. and Sports Coordinator for Effia Kwesimintsim Municipal Assembly.

Local educators and administrators, among them Daniel Kotei Ashie, Emmanuel Koomson, George A. Skah, Bright Cdjoe, Razak Moro and Ebenezer Amoako, also lent their support, underscoring the community’s commitment to empowering young girls through sport.

Participating schools included Rev Dunwell Methodist School, Rev Grant Methodist School, Effia Kuma Methodist Basic School, Good Shepherd Anglican School, Nana Brempong Yaw School, Whindo MA School, Whindo Assakae MA School, Anaji Estate Key School, Anaji M/A School, and Lagos Town M/A School, providing a vibrant mix of enthusiastic students eager to embrace the game.

The programme was spearheaded by Jennifer Amankwaa Sarpong, Head of Women’s Football Development, who outlined the aim, vision and mission of the Women’s Football Strategy to parents and pupils. She encouraged parents to provide guidance, resources and positive communication to help their daughters pursue football, while sharing inspiring success stories to motivate the young participants.

Activities on the day included fun games, a physical education session and the distribution of T-shirts and football equipment, all designed to raise awareness and foster a welcoming environment for girls to enjoy and learn the sport.

The GFA reaffirmed its commitment to advancing grassroots women’s football through the Grassroots Football: Football4Girls Project, describing the Effia Kuma event as a significant step forward in developing the women’s game in Ghana.
