Monday was an off day for the Dodgers, but still busy for Freddie Freeman, who garnered the equally-prestigious honors of National League player of the week and True Blue LA batter of the week.
Freeman, who got his 900th career extra-base hit on Sunday, then added 901 and 902 in the same game, talked with Bill Plunkett of the Orange County Register about another milestone, 3.000 hits.
Freeman, who enters Tuesday with 2,308 hits, told Plunkett this:
“Obviously it’s not set in stone. I have two years left on this contract (after 2025),” he said. “Then I would like to play two more years. I would turn 40 in September of 2029. So including this year, if I were to do 150 hits for all five years – just an average – you reach it. Obviously … Father Time, you never know when that’s going to hit. I’m trying to keep it away as long as I can. If I can have decent years this year and the next couple years, it’s an easier reach.”
Of late, Freeman has been red hot, hitting .475/.521/.852 over his last 16 games, with 10 multi-hit games in that span. The first of those games was April 25, when Freeman told Jack Harris of the Los Angeles Times that something clicked with a single off Paul Skenes.
Dave Roberts wasn’t happy that Bud Black, one of his mentors, was fired by the Rockies on Sunday. Steve Henson of the LA Times captured the reaction.
MLB Pipeline updated its top-100 prospects list on Monday. Roki Sasaki graduated off the list after accruing 45 days of major league service time, but five Dodgers remain on the list:
- Dalton Rushing No. 15 (up from 30th in January)
- Josue De Paula No. 33 (up from 40th)
- Zyhir Hope No. 45 (up from 75th)
- Alex Freeland No. 48 (up from 72nd)
- Jackson Ferris No. 63 (up from 71st)
