The Ghana Football Association (GFA), through its Technical Directorate and the Volta Regional Football Association (VRA), has officially launched the Football ‘4’ Girls grassroots initiative in Central Tongu, Adidome.

The initiative forms a key part of the GFA Women’s Football Strategy, which seeks to identify and nurture budding talents at the grassroots level, especially among girls in basic schools.

The launch event brought together eight schools in the district, who participated in a fun-filled gala and development sessions aimed at introducing young girls to organized football in a safe and supportive environment.

Participating Schools included Amedzo Bilingual School, EP Primary, Adidome, Global Primary, Adidome, RC Primary, Adidome ‘A’, RC Primary, Adidome ‘B’, DA Primary, Adidome, Kpogede Community School and DA Primary, Avakpedome.

The programme provided an opportunity to not only develop football skills but also to inspire and empower young girls to embrace the sport with confidence. In addition to on-field activities, the GFA also implemented the “Education” pillar of the Women’s Football Strategy. Girls were educated on breaking down social misconceptions surrounding women in football, and were encouraged through inspiring success stories of both local and international female footballers.

Teachers and headteachers were engaged and encouraged to foster positive communication and create a school environment where girls are supported to pursue football as part of their holistic development.

The event was attended by the Central Tongu District Football Association Chairman, Mr. Atsu Kuadey, along with headteachers and teachers from the participating schools. As part of the engagement, souvenirs such as footballs and branded T-shirts were distributed to the schools. The footballs are intended for use during Physical Education sessions to sustain interest and training.

The Football Association is commitment to building a strong foundation for women’s football by nurturing talent from the grassroots and ensuring that every girl has the opportunity to play, learn, and thrive through football.
