FIFA Women’s Football Commercial Strategy Programme: GFA application approved

The Football Association  has received official approval from FIFA for the Women’s Commercial Strategy Programme, marking a major milestone in the development of women’s football in Ghana.

Ghana’s application was approved as one of only 12 Member Associations (MAs) selected globally for the 2026 FIFA Women’s Football Commercial Programme – with the GFA standing out as the sole representative from Africa.

The programme, under its first cohort, is designed to support selected Member Associations in building sustainable revenue models for the women’s game. FIFA’s selection process was based on key indicators including governance, league structure, strategic planning, and growth potential.

As part of the initiative, the GFA will benefit from extensive technical and commercial support aimed at strengthening the Women’s Premier League and enhancing its market appeal. This includes technical assistance to refine the commercial packaging of Women’s Premier League clubs, targeted capacity-building for the GFA Marketing Department and club representatives on sponsorship acquisition and brand development, as well as comprehensive rebranding and repositioning of clubs to attract key sponsors and commercial partners.

The programme is expected to provide tailored commercial and marketing support to high-potential Women’s Premier League clubs, creating a stronger foundation for the sustainable growth of women’s football in Ghana.

Speaking on the achievement, Jennifer Amankwaa Sarpong expressed appreciation for FIFA’s continued support.

“We are grateful and acknowledge the impact of FIFA’s support. This world-class intervention will ensure long-term financial viability, adding greater value to the clubs, the league, and women’s football in Ghana,” she said.
