FIFA in collaboration with Ghana Football Association’s Women’s Football Development Desk is set to enroll 30 female coaches into the Women’s Development Programme: Coach Education Scholarships for all Women CAF License C Coaching Course.
The programme which aligns with the GFA Women’s Football Strategy has the objective of increasing the number of qualified female coaches working in the game.
The FIFA Coach Education Scholarship for Groups is a key FIFA Women’s Development Programme that supports two of FIFA Women’s Football Strategy pillars – ‘Develop and Grow’ and ‘Educate and Empower.
Programme Schedule
– Module 1: May 18 – May 27, 2026
– Internship 1: June 1 – June 30, 2026
– Module 2: July 6 – July 15, 2026
– Internship 2: July 18 – August 16, 2026
Both GFA and FIFA Women’s Football Strategies aim to achieve:
1. More female coaches: Increase the number of qualified female coaches working in the game.
2. Create easier pathways for female players to gain qualifications and increase their opportunities to obtain employment in coaching during or after their playing career.
3. Educate and inspire: Educate and inspire female players and coaches to ensure career longevity.
4. Networking opportunities for players: Grow the network of female players with easier pathways to obtain employment in coaching during or after their playing career.
“The Ghana Football Association is extremely grateful to FIFA and its Women’s Football Development Division for the support for this all important coaching course which further in our quest to have a lot of qualified Women coaches with excellence to drive our progressive Women’s football agenda” stated Prosper Harrison Addo, General Secretary of the GFA.
The course will be held atbthe Ghanaman Soccer Centre of Excellence at Prampram.
The programme is further aimed at reducing the financial barrier to coaching by providing assistance towards course fees and will bring further support from GFA in regards to development.
Eligibility is based on all females actively involved in game and willingness to pass on knowledge and work to continue developing the women’s game in Ghana.
The GFA Women’s Football Development Manager Jennifer Amankwaa Sarpong is delighted that FIFA and GFA are able to offer budding female Licence D coaches such an excellent opportunity to further their ambitions.
“It is important to train more female coaches to provide diversity in the coaching sector, they provide a visible career pathway for young females to enter the coaching profession and they can relate differently to young girls as they are a same-sex role model,” she says.
“If we wish to grow and develop the game, female coaches are a crucial element to this.”
Jennifer says there are a number of factors which have traditionally hindered women from getting involved in coaching and that GFA is working hard to break these down.
“We are pleased to be at the forefront of this programme by providing an exciting scholarship for females and are looking forward to seeing more females coaching our elite teams in the future as a result of this course.
