The 5th T20I between India and West Indies is scheduled for October 17, 2026 at M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru, and the match has already generated significant controversy before a single ball is bowled. Fans have directed sharp criticism at the BCCI and official ticketing partner TicketGenie after ticket prices were raised by 150 per cent just minutes before bookings opened, and the entire allocation sold out within 60 seconds.

The base ticket price for General Admission categories, including G Upper and H Upper, was advertised at ₹1,000 ahead of the sale. However, minutes before bookings opened on TicketGenie, the price was revised to ₹2,500. Ground-level lower-tier seats were listed at ₹3,200. Fans who had planned their purchases based on the earlier advertised figure found themselves facing a substantially higher cost with no prior notice.

Multiple fans took to Instagram to express their frustration. One post, which captured the mood of many supporters, read: “What a SCAM! The India vs West Indies match in Bengaluru. First, the starting ticket price was ₹1,000, then just before bookings opened, it suddenly jumped to ₹2,500. And within a minute of opening, tickets were already showing as unavailable. How are genuine fans supposed to get tickets? If tickets disappear this quickly, what’s the point of having an official ticketing partner? This only makes people worry about black-market sales. Extremely disappointing. @BCCI @TicketgenieIN.”

Another fan posted on Instagram: “IND vs WI 5th T20I Bangalore tickets: Banner showed ₹1,000, but now updated to ₹2,500! A massive jump out of nowhere—loot in broad daylight or sheer corporate greed? Fans deserve transparency. What’s really going on? Think about it! #INDvsWI.”

How quickly did tickets sell out and what are fans saying?

According to reports, tickets for the Chinnaswamy T20I sold out within 60 seconds of bookings opening. Fans who attempted to purchase tickets reported that the entire inventory had disappeared within three minutes of the sale going live. The speed of the sellout prompted widespread anger on social media, with supporters questioning whether the process was fair or transparent.

One fan posted simply: “No tickets available. Within 3 minutes. Sold out.” Another supporter speculated about the reason behind the rapid disappearance, writing on Instagram: “I think everything was already booked in the member sale or something cause the tickets immediately disappeared.”

Resale tickets are now reportedly being offered on unregulated platforms at four to eight times the official face value, placing them well beyond the reach of most ordinary supporters. The combination of the last-minute price increase and the near-instant sellout has left a large number of fans unable to attend what is a high-profile return of international cricket to Chinnaswamy Stadium.

Is this a wider problem across Indian cricket venues?

The complaints from Bengaluru are not isolated. Similar concerns over ticket scalping and black-market sales have been reported at other venues during the same series, including JSCA Stadium in Ranchi and the Holkar Cricket Stadium in Indore, other venues for the ongoing series. The pattern suggests a systemic issue with how tickets for high-demand India matches are distributed and monitored.

In Indore, cyber police issued a public warning urging fans not to purchase tickets through secondary or unverified platforms, citing the risk of fraud. Despite such warnings, the absence of an effective mechanism to prevent bulk buying or pre-sale allocation to non-public channels means that genuine supporters continue to lose out.

Neither the host board nor the ticketing partner has publicly explained the rationale behind the price revision at Chinnaswamy Stadium or addressed the speed at which tickets disappeared. Fans have called for greater transparency from both organisations over how allocations are managed and how the official ticketing process is structured for future matches.
