The Football Association has announced the officiating team for the 2025 Democracy Cup match, which will see Accra giants Hearts of Oak lock horns with city rivals Great Olympics.

The match, scheduled for Friday, September 5, 2025, at the University of Ghana Stadium, kicks off at 3:00 p.m. local time (15:00 GMT).

In line with the Football Association’s “Catch Them Young” refereeing policy, designed to identify and nurture young officiating talent, four emerging referees have been appointed to handle the contest.

Young Theophilus Antwi Sekyi will take charge as the centre referee. He will be assisted by Kojo Larbi Wagya (Assistant I) and Abraham Partey (Assistant II), with Alex Amoabeng serving as the fourth official.

The Democracy Cup, introduced to commemorate Ghana’s parliamentary democracy, is now in its second edition. This year’s fixture also carries the added flavor of a city derby, as both Hearts and Olympics seek bragging rights in Accra.

The maiden edition, staged in 2024, saw Asante Kotoko edge Hearts of Oak 2-1 in a thrilling encounter at the Accra Sports Stadium.
