On 29 May 2025, Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) sealed their place in the final of the ongoing IPL after defeating Punjab Kings (PBKS) in Qualifier One in Mullanpur. On the same day, in England, RCB’s Jacob Bethell shone with the bat in England’s massive 238-run win in the first game of the three-match home ODI series against West Indies.

Bethell was the Player of the Match for scoring 82 off 53, and that knock was crucial as England posted 400/8 in 50 overs. With the ball also, he bagged one wicket. However, Bethell left the RCB camp due to his international commitments and to be a part of this series. In the IPL 2025, he played two games and scored 67 runs, including a fifty.

ā€œI found that experience very beneficial.ā€ – Jacob Bethell on his IPL 2025 experience

During the post-match presentation, Bethell opened up about the game and shared his IPL experience as well. He said: ā€œIt’s pretty special to play for the first time here for England and to top it off with a win like that. [No. 6] I enjoy batting in the middle order. Today was a pretty easy situation to come into. We were well on top when I walked out… saw it through with Jos and managed to build a great thing with Jacksy. [Gameplan?] When I’m in, I can hit a lot of balls to the boundary so I’m not too fussed about taking a few balls at the start.ā€

ā€œ[IPL experience?] I learned a lot. I found that experience very beneficial. I feel a better player than I was two months ago… Virat was great! Being a part of that tournament was pretty special,ā€ Bethell concluded.

In both games in the IPL 2025, Bethell opened the innings with Kohli, putting up a 20-run opening partnership in 2.2 overs against Delhi Capitals (DC) and a 97-run opening partnership in 9.5 overs against Chennai Super Kings (CSK).
