The draw for the inaugural WAFU A&B U-20 Cup Ghana 2025 has been successfully conducted at the CAF West Zone B headquarters in Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire. The event, held on Friday, May 30, unveiled the official groupings for the groundbreaking youth football championship set to take place in Accra this June.

The tournament brings together 13 national U-20 teams from across WAFU Zones A and B for the first time in a joint competition, aimed at fostering regional collaboration and showcasing emerging football talent across West Africa.

The groups drawn are as follows:

Group A: Ghana (hosts), Togo, Gambia, Liberia

Group B: Nigeria, Burkina Faso, Guinea, Niger, Mali

Group C: Senegal, Sierra Leone, Côte d’Ivoire, Benin

Set to run from June 15 to June 30, 2025, the WAFU A&B U-20 Cup will be hosted in Accra, Ghana’s capital city, and is expected to draw considerable attention from scouts, football fans, and stakeholders across the continent and beyond.

The GFA views this tournament as a strategic opportunity not only to boost youth development but also to highlight Ghana’s leadership in African football. The Black Satellites, placed in Group A, will have home advantage and strong crowd support as they prepare to contend for the maiden title.

“This is a proud moment for Ghana and for West African football. Hosting this historic tournament aligns with our broader goal of investing in youth development and strengthening regional football ties,” said CAF 2nd Vice-President and GFA President Kurt Edwin Simeon-Okraku.

Group B is expected to deliver some high-intensity encounters, featuring giants Nigeria alongside formidable sides like Burkina Faso and Mali. Group C offers a tantalizing blend of francophone football flair, with former U-20 champions Senegal and hosts of the draw event Côte d’Ivoire in the mix.

The WAFU A&B U-20 Cup marks a significant milestone in the evolution of youth football in the region and provides a critical platform for identifying and nurturing the next generation of football stars.

The Ghana Football Association, in partnership with CAF, WAFU, and the Ministry of Youth and Sports, is committed to delivering a professionally organized tournament that reflects the quality and potential of West African football.

Football fans can look forward to a competitive, entertaining, and inspirational tournament that will celebrate the unity and diversity of the sub-region through the beautiful game.
