David Miller becomes second South African to smash 150 ODI sixes

David Miller has become the second South African batter to hit 150 sixes in One Day Internationals. The left-hander reached the milestone during the South Africa versus Australia ODI series that got under way on September 23, 2026, joining an exclusive group of South African batters to have cleared the rope that many times in the 50-over format.

Miller has played 180 ODIs for South Africa across a career that stretches from 2010 to 2026. In those 180 matches he has batted in 156 innings, remaining unbeaten on 46 occasions. His overall tally stands at 4,744 runs at an average of 43.12, and his 150 sixes are now part of that record.

The milestone was anticipated ahead of the Australia series. Reports confirmed that Miller was on the verge of completing 150 ODI sixes before the series began, making it the expected stage for him to reach the landmark.

How does Miller’s tally compare with AB de Villiers?

AB de Villiers holds the South African record for ODI sixes and remains the only South African batter ahead of Miller on the all-time list. De Villiers struck 200 sixes across 223 matches during a career that ran from 2005 to 2018. He retired from international cricket in 2018, leaving that mark untouched ever since.

Miller’s 150 sixes have arrived in 180 matches, which means he reached the 150-six landmark in fewer appearances than de Villiers needed to accumulate his full tally of 200. The gap between the two South Africans currently stands at 50 sixes, with de Villiers no longer available to add to his count and Miller still an active international player. That combination of a retired record-holder and an in-form active batter makes the comparison a compelling one for South African cricket followers.

Where does Quinton de Kock sit on the South African ODI sixes list?

Quinton de Kock occupies third place on the South African ODI sixes chart with 137 sixes from 163 matches across a career that began in 2013 and continues into 2026. He sits 13 sixes behind Miller’s newly achieved tally of 150 and remains an active international cricketer, keeping the possibility of further movement on the list open.

The top three on South Africa’s ODI sixes list now reads: de Villiers on 200, Miller on 150 and de Kock on 137. Each of the three batters contributed to their position across different eras of South African cricket, with de Villiers representing the 2005 to 2018 period, de Kock active from 2013 onwards and Miller building his tally from 2010 through to the present series against Australia. With both Miller and de Kock still playing, the standings at the top of this list could yet shift further in the seasons ahead.
