Chennai Super Kings presented 63 motorcycles, collectively valued at approximately ₹1 crore, to the Greater Chennai Traffic Police on October 12, 2026. The contribution was made under the franchise’s Corporate Social Responsibility programme and formalised through a handover and flagoff ceremony held at the Police Commissionerate in Vepery, Chennai.

Chennai Police Commissioner A. Amalraj and CSK Managing Director K.S. Viswanathan jointly conducted the ceremony. The two officials flagged off the fleet together, marking the formal transfer of the vehicles to the traffic department.

The stated purpose of the donation is to strengthen the operational capacity of traffic officers across the city. The motorcycles are expected to support improved patrolling, help ease congestion on Chennai’s roads and assist in the enforcement of road safety regulations.

What vehicles make up the donated fleet?

The 63 motorcycles are divided across two distinct models, each chosen to serve a different operational role within the traffic department. Thirty-eight Honda Shine motorcycles form the larger portion of the fleet. Being lighter commuter bikes, they are well suited to manoeuvring through the dense, stop-start traffic conditions typical of Chennai’s inner-city roads.

The remaining 25 motorcycles are Royal Enfield Bullets, which offer greater weight, presence and durability. These are better suited to patrolling arterial roads and stretches where a more visible enforcement presence is required. Together, the two models give the Greater Chennai Traffic Police a versatile addition to their existing resources, with the combined fleet valued at close to ₹1 crore.

How does this donation fit into CSK’s CSR programme?

The handover forms part of CSK’s structured Corporate Social Responsibility programme, through which the franchise directs a portion of its resources toward civic and community causes in Chennai. Channelling this particular contribution to the traffic police connects the franchise’s CSR activity directly to road safety, a concern that becomes especially relevant during the IPL season when match-day crowds generate significant additional traffic volumes across the city.

The choice of venue for the ceremony, the Police Commissionerate in Vepery, and the presence of both Commissioner Amalraj and Managing Director Viswanathan underline the formal, institutional character of the arrangement between CSK and the city’s law enforcement administration. The donation represents one of the more substantial single-event CSR contributions made by an IPL franchise to a civic body in recent years.
