After parts of 10 seasons with the Dodgers, Chris Taylor will stay in Southern California for his next MLB stop. The utility man signed with the Angels on Monday, and will bat eighth and start in center field against the Yankees at Angel Stadium in Anaheim.
Taylor was released by the Dodgers on May 18, ending a tenure that dated back to 2016, with four pennants and two championships earned along the way.
Playing was hard to come by with the Dodgers for Taylor, who started only six of the 46 games for which he was active for Los Angeles — three times in left field, twice in center, and once at second base. The 34-year-old played in 28 total games with the Dodgers this season but only batted 35 times, hitting .200/.200/.257.
Taylor signed with the Angels for the major league minimum of $760,000. Pro-rated over the 126 days remaining in the 186-day season, that’s roughly $514,839 for the rest of the season. That will offset what the Dodgers will pay, which is the remainder of Taylor’s $13 million salary this season plus a $4 million buyout of what would have been a 2026 club option.
With the Angels, Taylor will wear uniform number 33.
