For a surprise move, Chelsea plot a shock move for Laporte of Man City. The 30-year-old center-half, who has been in the Premier League six times with City, is said to be ready for a swift return back to England after just one year in the Middle East. Laporte, therefore, with all his experience, finds himself among the long list of players Chelsea could plot move for transfer, which will be dependent on whether the player is willing to leave Saudi Arabia or, really, the money.
Aymeric Laporte was instrumental in the rise of Manchester City under the stewardship of Pep Guardiola. In his five years at the Etihad, he shall have won five Premier Leagues, two FA Cups, and the Champions League. All composed with the ball, he was known from the air and range of passing from his left foot, once dubbed by his fellow players and critics as perhaps the best defender in the Premier League.

However, with the arrival of Ruben Dias and Josko Gvardiol and his demotion to third-choice status, Laporte left for Al-Nassr in August 2023, signing for a fee of around £23 million. And while a key player in the Saudi league, the reports suggest that he could be tempted back into Europe-a situation Chelsea now have their eyes on.
Chelsea plot for Laporte is because of the defense has been quite inconsistent for the past couple of seasons. Injuries, lack of organization, and leadership at the back have been to blame for it. While the club has gone on to buy young defenders such as Axel Disasi, Benoît Badiashile, and Levi Colwill, they have lacked so far a seasoned, title-winning central defender.
He would bring
A Winning Mentality
Having been an instrumental figure in City’s victories, he knows what it means to go all out on the pitch.
Left-Footed Balance
Chelsea currently lack a natural left-sided center-back, and Laporte’s ability to play out from the back would suit Pochettino’s system.
Temporary Fix
At 30, he would not hinder the growth of younger defenders. Moreover, he may indeed be able to offer them stability at least while they find their footing.
With Thiago Silva leaving this summer, Chelsea need an experienced head to guide their backline—making Laporte an intriguing option.
A return to the Premier League may tempt Laporte, but there are some barriers standing in Chelsea’s way.
Saudi Contract Complications- Reports say Laporte is earning close to £20 million annual salary in Saudi Arabia. So to bring him back to Chelsea they must negotiate with him for big pay cut or come up with a creative financial solution.

Al-Nassr’s Stance- The Saudi club may demand a sizable fee despite Laporte only joining last summer. This potentially price Chelsea out of a move.
Other Suitors- Barcelona and Aston Villa are also trailing, putting Chelsea into a bidding war for his signature.
Should a move for Laporte truly prove very difficult to pull off, other targets may have to be pursued. Gleison Bremer and Ousmane Diomande have come under the sights of the club, with Trevoh Chalobah, a product of Chelsea’s own academy. They still having a potential future if no offers satisfactory to the club arrive.
However, on this occasion, Laporte’s availability offered a rare opportunity to bring in an immediate, ready-made, elite-level defender who is an absolute expert when it comes to the Premier League. His leadership, combined with his technical ability, would have added great value to Chelsea at the back. Laporte is a short-term fix rather than a long-term investment.
Getting Laporte, whether on loan or as a cheap permanent transfer, could prove to be a brilliant piece of business. But Chelsea can make it work. They’ll need to be quick, though, provided financial constraints hit already, and Barcelona also want him.
What is evident is how Chelsea’s interest in Laporte shows that they realize their squad needs proven winners. Whether that transfer goes through could well be the sledgehammer for next season to build on.
