Chelsea Eye Move for Spanish Striker Samu Aghehowa

Once again dominating the transfer market, Chelsea fight with many Premier League opponents for one of Europe’s most gifted strikers. The Blues seem determined to improve their attacking options before a difficult campaign including the Club World Cup, therefore the summer window is shaping up to be a busy one for them.

The London side have already made early moves, including the acquisition of Liam Delap from Ipswich Town by triggering his £30 million release clause. While that deal has made waves, Chelsea are far from done. They have their sights set on additional reinforcements as they prepare for a high-stakes campaign under continued scrutiny.

Spanish striker Samu Aghehowa, who plays for FC Porto, is among the most often mentioned names in discussion over recent weeks. Including Chelsea, Arsenal, and Manchester United, several Premier League teams have showed interest in the young forward. Also said to be tracking the player’s situation are West Ham United and Aston Villa.

🚨 Manchester United are considering a summer move for Porto’s 20-year-old striker Samu Aghehowa, who has a release clause of about £84m.

By all measures, Aghehowa gave outstanding performances last year. In 42 games across all competitions, he scored 25 goals and had three assists. FC Porto reportedly value him in the €70–75 million range, a marked increase from the last summer when his price was much lower.

After agreeing with Atletico Madrid, who had also shown interest, Chelsea came close to signing the Spaniard last year. But then the agreement fell abruptly apart. Aghehowa’s market valuation has skyrocketed since then, which complicates a possible transfer this time around.

While Chelsea have been known to act swiftly in the transfer market, their cautious stance on valuation remains evident. A recent bid of €35 million for Borussia Dortmund’s Jamie Gittens was rejected, though negotiations are said to be ongoing. The Blues have also shown consistent interest in Hugo Ekitike, now at Eintracht Frankfurt, but the German club’s €100 million asking price appears to have deterred serious pursuit.

Samu Aghehowa, by comparison, offers a more balanced option in terms of cost and potential. Still just 21, he is considered one of Europe’s most complete young forwards. His ability to perform under pressure and adapt across different competitions has made him a standout talent.

Moreover, Chelsea’s near-miss with Aghehowa last summer adds an emotional layer to this transfer saga. Having seen his value double in just one year, the Blues may feel additional pressure to secure his signature this time, especially with rivals circling. Whether Aghehowa remains open to the move is uncertain, given how negotiations broke down previously.

Including Aghehowa might give Chelsea a lively forward line for years to come. His goal-scoring ability together with a decent physical presence makes him a great match for the Premier League. Consistency up front is essential for the Blues. His arrival could solve one of their recurring issues.

With several clubs keen on signing him, Chelsea have to move quickly. Any doubt might cause Aghehowa to move elsewhere, therefore missing a chance and possibly even boosting a direct competitor. The upcoming weeks will be absolutely vital in deciding whether Chelsea can regain their lead in the race.

Chelsea’s pursuit for Samu Aghehowa shows their aim to stay ahead on all areas next year. With the Spanish striker now a top target for many teams, the Blues have to move quickly and thoughtfully.

Will they land the signing they missed out on last year? Share your thoughts in the comments below!
