The stage is set for a thrilling encounter between two of Africa’s most revered women’s national teams, as Nigeria’s Super Falcons take on the Black Queens in an international friendly match on Sunday, June 29, 2025, in Morocco.

This highly anticipated clash, aptly dubbed the “Jollof Derby,” promises to be an electrifying spectacle that showcases the best of African women’s football. The rivalry between these two nations transcends the pitch, reflecting a deep-seated cultural and historical significance that adds an extra layer of excitement to the match. As both teams prepare to face off in the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations, this friendly match serves as a crucial opportunity for them to finetune their strategies, test their strengths and weaknesses, and gain valuable insights into each other’s gameplay ahead of the tournament in Morocco in July.

The Black Queens have shown impressive form with recent victories over Malawi (3-1) and Benin Republic (4-2) and boast an attacking threat with players like Princella Adubea, Evelyn Badu, and Nina Norshie leading the charge.

Nigeria’s Super Falcons also come into the match fresh from a gritty 0-0 draw with Portugal, highlighting their defensive discipline and goalkeeper Chiamaka Nnadozie’s brilliance. The team features talented players like Asisat Oshoala, Rinsola Babajide, and Ashleigh Plumptre.

Ghana is eager to make a strong impression in the tournament, having missed out on the continental showpiece for seven years – with their last appearance dating back to 2018, when the tournament was hosted in Accra. Ghana is paired with South Africa, Mali, and Tanzania in Group C, while Nigeria has Tanzania, Tunisia, and Uganda as their opponents.

“With full respect to Malawi and Benin, Nigeria is one step up. One of the best teams in Africa with good players in almost every position. The game against Nigeria is going to be a very, very tough game. But that’s also what we need now because we have shown that our lowest level is high enough. We know that we can score goals, and we have built a good defence, so it’s going to be fun to match up against one of the best teams’’ Ghana coach Kim Lars Bjorkegren said in an interview after the win against Benin on Wednesday.

The highly anticipated encounter will take place at the Lanoura Complex in Morocco on Sunday, June 29, 2025.
