The Black Princesses have moved camo to Accra ahead of their third-round FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup qualifier against South Africa.

Head Coach Charles Sampson gives an update on the team’s preparation and readiness ahead of this crucial encounter.

“Today we started with some build-up from the back so that our new goalkeeper, who just joined us, can become more conversant with the mid-backs. These are things we’ve worked on several times, but because of her, we tried to do a repetition so she gets it.

“There are no injury concerns so far, and that’s good news for the team. We’re ready for the game on Sunday.

“Nerves are a good thing; it means there’s will. Having nerves during these games is normal, and we respect it. You also have to give some respect to your opponent, and that’s part of it. So, it’s just about how we handle it. I’m looking forward to seeing the girls grow on Sunday and show maturity.

“If I look at South Africa and look at us, they also have almost this type of mindset that we do. So, I see it being an open game, but I see us having an advantage over them in many other things that I won’t speak about. We’re looking forward to this game. We really want to go past them. We know this is a test, and it’s also a way for us to see ourselves and see where we are and how we’ve grown as a team’’.

“This is so, so important. We’re playing at home for the first game, and we want to have a big advantage going to South Africa. Of course, the supporters are our 12th player, as we always say. So, I’m looking forward to it. I’m hoping the whole stadium will be packed to capacity to scare the South Africans and give us more morale to win this game.”

Ghana will host South Africa in the first leg at the Accra Sports Stadium on Sunday, February 8th, 2026, at 15:30 GMT.
