Barcelona are reportedly trying to secure funds to pay Espanyol goalkeeper Joan Garcia’s release clause. As reported by Marca via Barca Universal, the Blaugrana are exploring the options to collect the Spaniard’s €25 million fee.
Barcelona have already agreed personal terms with the 24-year-old but the move is far from finalised. The Blaugrana are now looking to free up funds to make the Espanyol keeper their first signing of the summer.
It has also been claimed that the Catalan giants are also ready to take a bank loan for Garcia’s signature. They are, however, working on various ways to free up funds to make the deal go through.
Espanyol reportedly have no intention of interfering with Garcia as they believe that the keeper has already made up his mind. They are ready to part ways with their number one but want his release clause to be paid in full.
Joan Garcia is a highly regarded keeper who enjoyed a solid last season with Espanyol in LaLiga. He kept eight clean sheets in 38 league games last season while conceding 51 goals.
Barcelona are reportedly ready to part ways with Marc-André ter Stegen in the summer who has been their first-choice keeper since 2014. The German missed the majority of the last season with an injury and has struggled to reclaim his place since his comeback.
Wojciech Szczęsny was brought in as Ter Stegen’s emergency replacement and did a brilliant job upon coming back from retirement. The former Arsenal keeper has reportedly been offered a new deal by the Blaugrana.
Barcelona president Joan Laporta has reportedly urged Marc-André ter Stegen to leave in the summer. As reported by El Nacional, the Catalan giants want Joan Garcia from Espanyol to replace their long-serving German custodian.
As reported by Fabrizio Romano, Barca have already reached an agreement with the Espanyol keeper. However, they are yet to trigger the 24-year-old’s €25 million release clause.
Ter Stegen’s current deal at Camp Nou expires in 2028 and he has plenty of suitors for his services. The 33-year-old has attracted interest from AC Milan, Marseille, Monaco and Juventus.
The German keeper joined Barcelona in 2014 from Borussia Monchengladbach and has been a reliable servant over the years. He has made 422 appearances for the Spanish club so far winning 17 trophies in the process.
Snehanjan developed an interest in football at a very young age, thanks to his father watching football on TV. His favorite player is club legend Steven Gerrard and his favorite manager is another legend in Jurgen Klopp. The ‘Miracle of Istanbul’ i.e., Liverpool beating AC Milan in the 2005 UEFA Champions League final left an indelible mark on him. He believes that Liverpool is a family unlike other top clubs, which sets them apart.
Snehanjan also follows Indian Super League and the I-League, although the latter is closer to his heart. If he could change a rule in football, it would be VAR not pointing out mistakes of on-field officials unless they are clear and obvious errors. Outside the football world, Snehanjan likes to explore the various genres of music and watch movies and shows on OTT. He’s also a car enthusiast and likes to follow the automobile world.
