West Ham booked their place in the Women’s FA Cup fifth round with a comfortable win at Newcastle thanks to an impressive display from forward Viviane Asseyi.

The Hammers were awarded a penalty shortly before half-time at the Gateshead International Stadium when Newcastle defender Charlotte Wardlaw felled Asseyi inside the box.

The France forward dusted herself down and then buried the spot-kick past Anna Tamminen into the corner of the net.

The 32-year-old then turned provider for Japan striker Riko Ueki to fire home from the edge of the box moments before the hour mark.

Asseyi provided her second assist of the game to tee up Sarah Brasero-Carreira, who hit a low finish into the bottom corner in the 71st minute to put the game to bed for the Women’s Super League side against their second-tier opponents.

The draw for the fifth round will take place on Monday, 19 January.
