Arsenal weighed up shock move for Chelsea’s Noni Madueke. Arsenal are mulling over an unexpected approach for Chelsea winger Noni Madueke. This happened after Mikel Arteta attempted to bolster his offensive options. The 22-year-old England international came at a cost of £29 million from PSV Eindhoven in January 2023. Moreover, he already shows signs of his electric potential, the reason Arsenal weighed up a move for him. But is yet to find a stable foothold at Stamford Bridge.

Madueke is a former Tottenham Hotspur academy kid. However, he made his move to PSV where he developed into one of the most exciting and high potential young wingers left in Europe in the Eredivisie. He possesses explosive pace and dribbling to cut in on his strong left foot, making him a dangerous wide attacker. Arsenal weighed up Madueke’s quality on the limited minutes he has produced at Chelsea. That said, he already proved his quality moments when given the chance. It refers to many of his moments that includs a late, crucial winner against Crystal Palace last season.

Arsenal’s interest is motivated by the need for depth behind Bukayo Saka. While Saka is undroppable on the right flank at Arsenal, the absence of a natural depth option has been an issue. Reiss Nelson and Leandro Trossard have been pressed into action when needed. But neither can claim to hold the identical profile that Madueke has. This refers to the profile of Madueke as a direct, left-footed winger who is capable of beating defenders one-on-one.

Madueke’s possible departure could also be a timely opportunity from Chelsea. This helps them as they look to get some of their books sorted after heavy spending. With involvement from Cole Palmer, Raheem Sterling, and Mykhailo Mudryk, you could see the Blues are open to selling if there is enough reason.

There are several difficulties with this possible move. Chelsea’s absolute unwillingness to strengthen are rival is apparent; however, could financial constraints force their hand? There are little doubts if in fact Madueke would be willing to accept a reserve role in Arsenal, already struggling to earn starts at Chelsea.

Tactically speaking, Arteta demands his wingers to have a high rate of defensive work – an area Madueke has plenty of scope for improvement. That said, he is still young at 22 and has plenty of time to develop those areas of his game with guidance under Arteta.

For Arsenal, it would represent a calculated risk. Madueke offers different skill sets to Saka and would provide backup options in several competitions. Although early, his Premier League experience, means he wouldn’t have to go through an adaptation period.

If anything, a loan with an option to buy can make all the parties agree. This will facilitate Arsenal to decide on the future of Madueke prior to committing long-term deal. However, conversely if Chelsea were to demand a permanent deal, the fee may be reasonable with his age and potential.

While this is all a little speculative, it most definitely makes sense from Arsenal’s perspective in terms of squad needs. Madueke would have the opportunity to learn from one of the league’s best developers of young talent, while Arsenal would have an exciting attacker available without having to pay exorbitantly for an older established player.

As we go deeper into the transfer window, this has the potential to be one of the more interesting deals between London rivals. Much of this will depend on Chelsea’s current financial situation and whether they deem Madueke surplus to requirements in a very full attacking group. For now, it’s a situation to keep a close eye on.
