Arsenal Push Gyokeres Transfer Amid Sporting Standoff

Arsenal are preparing a renewed bid in their pursuit of striker Viktor Gyokeres as they continue their summer rebuild. The Gunners remain firmly interested in the Sweden international following his standout campaign with Sporting CP, where he netted 54 goals and powered the club to a domestic double. Despite hitting a roadblock with their first bid, Mikel Arteta’s side are not giving up on the Gyokeres transfer.

The north London team are in the market for a prolific forward to lead their line next season. Benjamin Sesko had also been a top target, but attention has now shifted back to Gyokeres. Arsenal’s initial offer of around £55 million, including add-ons, was rejected by Sporting. However, the club is now expected to return with an improved proposal that edges closer to the Portuguese champions’ valuation.

🚨🇸🇪 Viktor Gyökeres’ priority is to join Arsenal this summer despite calls from Manchester United in the recent weeks.

Arsenal’s new bid for the Gyokeres transfer is expected to exceed £59.7 million, factoring in performance-related bonuses. Although the total still falls short of Sporting’s revised asking price of around £67.4 million, it brings negotiations a step closer to a breakthrough.

Earlier suggestions pointed to a gentleman’s agreement between Gyokeres and Sporting, which would have allowed him to leave for around £60 million. But Sporting president Frederico Varandas publicly denied those claims. Speaking this week, he clarified, “I never promised him that. Sporting has not had an offer for Viktor Gyokeres, neither today nor last season.”

Varandas also stated the club won’t hold firm on the £84 million release clause but expects any offer to reflect Gyokeres’ importance and age. The Swedish striker, who turns 27 this summer, is keen to join a club capable of competing in the Champions League. Arsenal clearly meet that ambition, but the financial details remain a sticking point.

While Arsenal maintain their pursuit, Gyokeres himself has grown frustrated with the ongoing speculation. He recently took to social media, writing, “There is a lot of talks at the moment, most of it is false. I will speak when the time is right.” This message, seen as a response to Varandas’ comments and the transfer rumours, suggests that the player is aware of interest but that no deal is imminent.

From Arsenal’s side, there appears to be no formal agreement in place, even though discussions have involved specific figures. With Sesko now staying at RB Leipzig, the Gunners may soon turn their full attention to securing Gyokeres, especially with the new season approaching quickly.

Mikel Arteta has made it a priority to add firepower to his squad. Gabriel Jesus and Eddie Nketiah both struggled for consistency last season, and a new number nine is vital if Arsenal are to challenge for the Premier League title again. The Gyokeres transfer would offer a significant upgrade in both goal output and physical presence in the final third.

Moreover, Gyokeres’ style fits well with Arsenal’s system. His ability to press, hold the ball, and finish clinically could make him an ideal lead striker in Arteta’s setup. His prolific form in Portugal has already drawn admiration across Europe, but Arsenal are among the few clubs with both the financial capacity and project appeal to convince him.

Arsenal, though, are acting with purpose. The Gyokeres transfer drama is far from gone. The Gunners could be getting closer to acquiring their primary striker target as a new offer is in the making and the player continues to show interest.

Will they meet Sporting’s demands or change course once more before the window closes? Share your ideas in the comments below!
