Mikel Arteta, who worked with Sane at City, is said to have made the 28-year-old wideman his ideal forward reinforcement. Now that Gabriel Martinelli and Bukayo Saka are first team players, Sane’s arrival provides the Gunners with depth in the attacking order and flexibility to rotate their side, particularly in congested competitions like the UEFA Champions League.
Moreover, landing a player of Sane’s quality on a free would be considered a steal, especially for a club aware of Financial Fair Play limitations. Though Bayern still have time to propose a new deal, chasing Arsenal are monitoring the situation closely and will be ready to begin negotiations in January 2025 if the winger has not entered into fresh terms by then.
Bayern Munich still optimistic of persuading Leroy Sane to sign contract extension as new boss Vincent Kompany ‘wants to keep winger as part of squad rebuild’ Kompany played against Sane, knows his ability and is likely to take matters into his own hands as he tries to persuade the winger to remain in Bavaria.
However, Bayern’s recruitment plans indicate back-up for an eventual departure. Newly-promoted German club have their eye on Wide attacker is a target for the German side, with rumours surrounding younger alternatives in the Bundesliga and La Liga. If Bayern fail to secure a renewal by early 2025, they may feel forced to sell him in January rather than risk losing him for nothing in June.
Arsenal, though, are not alone in that pursuit. Manchester United and Liverpool have also shown interest, along with several Saudi Pro League teams preparing massive contract offers. However, Sane reportedly prefers to stay in Europe, and the idea of returning to the Premier League appeals to the former Manchester City star.

The Gunners are hoping that their silver lining of maintaining Champions League status, team continuity, as well as Arteta’s project is what will attract Sane. Inside the Emirates, they’ve already discussed signing Sane if he becomes available on a free next summer.
Some see signing Leroy Sane on a free transfer as a smart move, but it carries risks. At 29 when his contract expires, Sane wouldn’t exactly be a long term prospect and Arsenal’s recent transfer policy has been based on youth and development more than most. But as they set their sights higher, experience and depth in the squad are proving just as important.
From a tactical standpoint, Sane fits perfectly into Arteta’s quick bustling brand of play – and the pair know each other well from their time together at City. If Arsenal can get him and it doesn’t break their financial plan the signing could be one of the most shrewd of 2025. But timing will be critical, as will the negotiations and ensuring that his arrival fits into the club’s plan in general.
