Arsenal have entered the race to sign Chelsea striker Christopher Nkunku. The Gunners are now making serious bids for his signature. Interest in the 27-year-old has gathered pace. Chelsea prepare for another summer makeover and look to offload several players. The French international is among them.

Nkunku arrived at Stamford Bridge in great expectation after thriving on a good run of form at RB Leipzig. Chelsea acquired him in 2023 on a deal worth up to £52 million. His west London stint has, however, been disappointing, with injuries and inconsistent form denying him the expected influence.

Now that Enzo Maresca is in charge at Chelsea, the club are willing to release the striker. Nkunku has been told he can leave, and a fee of around £40 million will reportedly be enough to complete a deal.

A number of Europe’s biggest clubs are now making the rounds, among them being Bayern Munich and Bayer Leverkusen. Both German clubs are keen to have Nkunku return to Germany, where he had earlier experienced great success. While at RB Leipzig, the striker managed to score 58 goals in two seasons. This made him one of the league’s most prolific attackers.

Bayern Munich see Nkunku as a match-winner addition who can play on the front line. The Bundesliga title winners want to add more creativity and pace around Harry Kane, and Nkunku’s proven league record is a good fit. Bayer Leverkusen are tracking the player, eager to fortify their outfit for another title push next season.

🚨🔵 The plan has not changed since March: Christopher Nkunku and Chelsea are expected to part ways in the summer.

In spite of the intense German interest, Arsenal’s position in the hunt is still firm. The Gunners are evaluating attacking options for next season and feel Nkunku would be successful under Mikel Arteta’s system. His versatility of being able to play in various forward positions is seen as a huge asset, given that Arsenal will be competing on a few fronts next season.

Nkunku is believed to be willing to make a switch this summer, particularly with the guarantee of regular playing time. At Chelsea, a succession of injuries and tactical shifts have hindered him from carving out a role in first team. His aim now is to move to a club where he can play week-in, week-out and revive his career.

Arsenal might be the perfect place for that next step. Arteta has demonstrated his potential in improving players and dictating a flowing attacking philosophy that might be to Nkunku’s strengths. Competition for positions continues to be high, but the north London club is of the opinion that the former Leipzig star might provide both short-term and long-term benefits.

Nkunku’s exit would be part of Chelsea’s wider overhaul. Chelsea are again gearing up for a complete overhaul as they look to trim the squad and meet financial rules. Some players will be heading out as Maresca rebuilds the team in his own likeness. With a deal running through 2029, Chelsea maintain a firm hold on talks. But their offer to sell at discounted price indicates that the club desire to transact at speed and prevent further issues.

Christopher Nkunku might not have fulfilled his potential at Chelsea, but demand for his services has not dissipated. Arsenal are monitoring developments closely and might make a bid should the situation be conducive. Bayern Munich and Bayer Leverkusen are also in the running, making the race for the French attacker hotting up — and his next club may be determined early in the transfer window.
