Arsenal have ramped up their interest in RB Leipzig forward Benjamin Sesko with discussions continuing over a possible summer deal. The Gunners are looking for a consistent goalscorer to spearhead their attack next season and the Slovenian has been identified as a key target.

22-year-old Benjamin Sesko has enjoyed a promising 2024/25 season with Leipzig, netting 17 times in all competitions. His performances have attracted the attention of a number of top clubs, with Arsenal said to be leading the race. Mikel Arteta views him as an ideal fit for his system, blending physical presence with technical quality and movement.

Gabriel Jesus and Eddie Nketiah have shared the striking duties, but neither has been prolific in front of goal. Arteta wants to bring in a centre-forward who can stretch defences and offer a more traditional No.9 threat, especially in cagey games where Arsenal fail to convert opportunities. With Sesko’s release clause reportedly set at approximately £55 million, Arsenal plan to pay the transfer fee in instalments to facilitate the move.

BREAKING: Arsenal and Sesko have reached an agreement. Arsenal have also signalled to Leipzig that their offer will not fall below expectations.

RB Leipzig have not put up a “for sale” sign but know interest in their young star is accelerating at pace. The club are understood to be optimistic of persuading Sesko to stay for another year but the teenager appears open-minded about moving to the Premier League. Talks between Arsenal and the forward’s representatives are understood to be going well, with personal terms not expected to be the problem.

For Arsenal to pull off the signing, should they? That would be a departure from their recent transfer approach. Unlike last summer’s more immediate focus on midfield and defensive reinforcement, Arteta and Berta are now putting an emphasis on a striker for the long-term, one to grow with the team. Sesko is only 22, which is exactly the type of player who can hit the ground running whilst also developing into a top forward under Arteta.

Sesko is a traditional No 9 and aesthetically, he certainly fits the profile for the Premier League. At 6-foot-4, he has aerial dominance, clinical finishing and smart off the ball run. His hold-up play and ability to link-up with runners around him offers Arsenal a different outlet to their current fluid attack, which comprises Bukayo Saka, Gabriel Martinelli and Kai Havertz.

𝙏𝙍𝘼𝙉𝙎𝙁𝙀𝙍 𝙉𝙀𝙒𝙎: There is still NO complete agreement between all parties involved in the Benjamin Sesko story – the player, Arsenal, Leipzig, there is still nothing done in terms of transfer fee or personal terms. 🔴

Leipzig have a history of developing well, selling big and recruiting hungry – such as Christopher Nkunku and Dominik Szoboszlai – so it’s not impossible that they’d be open to a a deal at the right price. But the German side will demand the release clause in full unless Arsenal can propose substantial add-ons or an inflated fee up front. With Champions League football guaranteed, the Gunners have the funds to battle for the very best stars.

Handing Benjamin Sesko a contract would be an aggressive, but properly calculated move by Arsenal. The gunners have worked hard to cultivate a consistent, energetic team over the past couple of seasons yet what they have told everyone is they don’t have a regular striker again fueling the frustration for not signing a top forward last summer. Kai Havertz adapted well to a false nine role, but a real forward like Seseke could take the Gunners attack to a new level.

The real key to this potential signing though will be the age and ceiling of the player. Sesko is not a quick-fix — he is a centre-forward who could top the bill at the Emirates for the next 10 seasons plus. If Arsenal can finalise this deal swiftly, it could prove to be one of the smartest investments of the summer.
