Chelsea are looking for £50m for midfielder Andrey Santos transfer, who is attracting attention from Arsenal and Paris Saint-Germain . The 21-year-old was signed for £18m in 2023 but has never played for Chelsea. However he has had his best year yet on loan at Strasbourg this season. After his 10 goals in Ligue 1 and his role in the team as a captain, Santos became a target for some of the biggest clubs in Europe.

Chelsea’s financial objectives and extensive squad have led their decision to sell Santos, regardless of the multiple showing of form. Todd Boehly demonstrated his appreciation for Santos potential, but emphasised focus on the Club World Cup. Reports suggest Chelsea intend to profit off the rising value of Santos. Although Todd Boehly has implied on integrating him for next season.

Todd Boehly: “We have some players that are joining us for the Club World Cup, like Andrey Santos from Strasbourg. We are really excited about him and what he can add to the squad.”

Arsenal are considering Andrey Santos transfer as a big part of their midfield rebuilding task. This escalated further since there are questions surrounding Jorginho and Thomas Partey’s longer-term futures with the club. Arsenal face competition from PSG, who still see some promising youth, with eyes on adding to their already changing squad. Both clubs appear at odds with Santos’ £50m asking price making negotiations complex.

PSG’s scouting network has continuously followed Santos’ performances for Strasbourg this season. PSG will continue to look for the next selection of Ligue 1 stars to move to the capital. The Brazilian’s ability to arrive in the intelligence area; score, create and captain makes him a prospect narrowly aligning with what they want to do. Chelsea will consider selling him aligning to any domestic rival, possibly a slight restrictor.

Santos is still open to remaining at Chelsea but he wants clarity now the Club World Cup is over. While Strasbourg played European football which enhances and protects his profile, Chelsea are sending mixed signals. They are publicly praising him while exploring a move to January transfer him elsewhere which puts Santos’ plans for 2023 into flux.

Chelsea are asking for £50m. It reflects a profit to the club of 178% on what they paid for Santos in the summer. Bayern Munich and AC Milan have kept track of Santos since the start of the year. Moreover, Arsenal and PSG appear to be leading the charge. A swap with Enzo Fernández was briefly shared but no longer seems plausible.

While Chelsea balance the desire to make financial gain with possible longer-term need or likely longer term increase in value in Santos, potential suitors must consider Santos appears unproven in the Premier League. When Boehly started the conversation about creating a “portfolio of youth” it may or may not sit comfortably with a desire to look for immediate profit.

Andrey Santos’ future is in limbo right now as he is unable to find consistent playing time at the highest level. Though we can all see his ability, limited opportunities and competition have meant minimal progress. He could be loaned or permanently transferred to a club where he will get regularly watching time and this will help develop, but by remaining at his current club he will likely miss more further development opportunities. He needs to take his next steps wisely; he will either take the right opportunity to show what he is capable of or fade into obscurity. At just 19, he has time, but he needs to act decisively so it does not pass him and he does not lose out on fulfilling his potential and finding a pathway into football at the highest level.
