Adelaide Strikers confirmed on September 22 the signing of England international Maia Bouchier for the 2026 Women’s Big Bash League season. The 27-year-old batter will join the South Australian franchise for the upcoming edition of the WBBL.
Bouchier, born December 5, 1998, has represented England across all three formats. She made her T20I debut against New Zealand on September 4, 2021, her ODI debut against Sri Lanka on September 9, 2023, and her Test debut against South Africa on December 15, 2024. Her multi-format international experience adds considerable depth to the Strikers’ batting line-up.
This will not be Bouchier’s first experience of Australian conditions. She previously represented Melbourne Stars during the season in 2021-22, giving her a working knowledge of the competition’s pace and demands before she arrives in Adelaide.
What did Maia Bouchier say about joining Adelaide Strikers?
Bouchier pointed to her existing relationship with head coach Luke Williams as a key factor in her decision to join the Strikers. Williams, who is confirmed as Adelaide Strikers head coach, has worked with Bouchier previously and their familiarity was clearly a draw for the England batter.
“I’m really excited to be joining the Adelaide Strikers and adding to an already talented squad. They’ve built a strong reputation in the WBBL, and I’m looking forward to doing everything I can to help the group achieve success and make a deep run into the finals. I’m also thrilled to be reuniting with Luke Williams. We’ve worked together before and I have a lot of respect for him as a coach, so I’m looking forward to working with him again and getting to know my new teammates,” Bouchier said in an official statement.
What does Luke Williams expect from Bouchier at the Strikers?
Adelaide Strikers head coach Luke Williams welcomed the signing warmly, highlighting Bouchier’s ability to score quickly at the top of the order and her experience across major competitions around the world as qualities that will benefit the side this season.
“Maia is an outstanding talent and someone who has established herself as one of the most exciting batters in international cricket. She brings a proven ability to score quickly at the top of the order, as well as valuable experience from playing in major competitions around the world. Having worked with Maia before, I know the quality she possesses both as a player and as a person. We’re delighted to welcome her to the Strikers and look forward to seeing the impact she can have this season,” Williams added.
