Coco Gauff’s ex-coach Brad Gilbert recently called out Rafael Jodar as his ball kid controversy at the Shanghai Masters added to his troubled record. Gilbert bluntly stated that the Spaniard’s behaviour was ‘inexcusable’ and asked him to learn from his mistakes.
Jodar kicked off his campaign in Shanghai with wins over Thiago Agustin Tirante and Jiri Lehecka. For his round of 16 encounter, the 20-year-old ran into Botic Van de Zandschulp and during a tense moment in his encounter against the Dutch star, Jodar angrily demanded a towel from a ball boy in frustration, swearing at the kid in Spanish. The 12th seed was subsequently handed a code violation for his unsportsmanlike conduct by umpire Jimmy Pinoargote.
