Trevor Plouffe says a general manager telling a player to improve or lose his position, in public, would be all the motivation he needed. The former big leaguer applied that idea to Dave Dombrowski’s blunt assessment of Trea Turner.
Dombrowski, the Phillies’ president of baseball operations, held his end-of-season news conference on Thursday morning at Citizens Bank Park, his first availability since Philadelphia lost Game 3 of the NL Wild Card Series to Atlanta on Oct. 1.
Dombrowski said he and Turner met for about two hours on Tuesday, after the shortstop flew back from his Florida home, and that he told Turner a position change is possible if his defense does not improve.
