Wales head coach Craig Bellamy recalled an instance of how the Lisbon airport came to a standstill for Cristiano Ronaldo’s arrival ahead of his team’s UEFA Nations League opener against the Selecao tonight (September 24).
The former Welsh striker talked about an incident from his days as assistant head coach at Burnley between 2022 and 2024 when his team were in Lisbon for pre-season. The entire airport was in lockdown mode to prepare for Ronaldo’s arrival, with police cars cordoning off the area, while Bellamy and Co. watched on from their bus as they realised Ronaldo’s stature in Portugal.
