The 17-year-old Tanvi Sharma clinched the women’s singles title at the 2026 Taipei Open Super 300 on Sunday.
The triumph marked a career first BWF World Tour title win for the fast rising teenager.
Sharma, who was up against Nguyen Thuy Linh of Vietnam in the final, registered a 21-16, 21-16 straight games victory to coast along to the title.
“I didn’t expect to win the title,” Sharma said after the win. “I just thought I would give my best, so I was going step by step, match by match.”
The Indian started off well in the contest, racing to a 10-2 lead in no time in the opening game. Nguyen, did fight back to win six straight points, but Sharma held her own to lead 11-8 at the mid-game interval.
Post the break, Sharma once again extended her head to 18-9 and looked primed to win the opening game for ease. She did do it, but it wasn’t before a mini fight back from the Vietnamese shuttler which ensured that the scorecard read a more respectable 21-16.
The early stages of the second game were keenly fought but Sharma emerged on top with an 11-8 advantage at the mid-game interval.
The Indian upped her game post that, racing to a 17-10 lead. Nguyen once again fought back but it was once again too little too late as Sharma wrapped up the match in just 36 minutes.
