Speculation around Hardik Pandya‘s future at Mumbai Indians has intensified ahead of the IPL 2027 season, with conversations about his potential move gathering momentum before the conclusion of IPL 2026. Multiple franchises, including Chennai Super Kings, Rajasthan Royals, Kolkata Knight Riders and Delhi Capitals, have been understood to be considering the all-rounder as an option for the upcoming season. The trade market itself remains in its early stages, with most franchises still conducting their own post-season reviews and evaluations before engaging in substantive discussions about player movements.

Mumbai Indians endured three contrasting seasons, with a disastrous 2024 campaign followed by a playoffs appearance in 2025 and an underwhelming 2026 season. For the unversed, Hardik reunited with the five-time champions in 2024, coming back to their setup while also being named the captain, replacing Rohit Sharma. The franchise is currently evaluating its leadership group, coaching staff and overall cricket operations as part of its comprehensive review. This review process forms the foundation upon which any future decisions, including potential trades, will be based.

“Our post-season review is currently on, and we are looking into all aspects of the team. Contrary to reports, we are not engaged in conversations with regard to player trades; the same is only possible once the review is complete. A range of options and ideas are being evaluated, which require time; hence, no decisions have been made,” a franchise official told Sportstar.

MI clarifies position on Pandya trade talks

Pandya’s separation from Mumbai Indians’ talent management operations had fuelled speculation about his future with the franchise. However, this development is not being interpreted as a definitive exit from the organisation. The franchise has maintained that all options remain under consideration as part of its broader strategic evaluation.

Most franchises across the IPL are currently in similar positions, prioritising their internal assessments before entering into formal trade negotiations. The trade window and player movement discussions are expected to gain momentum only after individual franchises complete their respective post-season reviews and establish their strategic direction for the upcoming season.
