Power to the Youth: GFA empowers National Juvenile Committee to overhaul registration of young players
SHARE

The  Football Association has granted the National Juvenile Committee the authority to establish approved modalities for the registration of juvenile players, a critical step under the FA’s Power to the Youth strategy aimed at strengthening grassroots football development.

The decision was taken during the Executive Council meeting held in January 2026, which brought together all ten Regional Football Association chairmen. The Council formally empowered the committee to design and implement a standardized system for the registration of all young players across the country, ensuring consistency, transparency and alignment with national development policies.

Under the leadership of Chairman JoeSalam Abubakar, the National Juvenile Committee is tasked with crafting practical procedures, guidelines and compliance frameworks that will streamline juvenile player registration.

The approved modalities will cover all age-grade categories and regional jurisdictions, ensuring that clubs, schools and football academies adhere to uniform standards in registering, tracking and reporting their young talents.

This move also seeks to professionalise grassroots football management, creating a robust foundation for identifying and nurturing future national team players.
