Days after Former Australian cricketer Damien Martyn was put in an induced coma, signs of his health are improving quickly and in a miraculous turnaround, the doctors are hopeful of soon being able to move Martyn out of intensive care. Star Australian cricketer and Martyn’s former teammate and a very close friend, Adam Gilchrist, has provided a pleasant update where he revealed that Marty has woken up from the coma and has been able to speak with his family. “It’s been an unbelievable turn of events in the last 48 hours,” Gilchrist said in a statement issued on behalf of Martyn’s family. “He is now able to talk and respond to treatment. He has responded extraordinarily well since coming out of the coma to the point where his family feels it’s like some sort of miracle. The 54-year old was put in an induced coma after suffering from Meningitis. Martyn was transported from his Gold Coast home after being unwell on Boxing Day to a Brisbane hospital and was put in an induced coma after the diagnosis of meningitis. Glichrist further said, “It has been so positive that they’re hopeful he will be able to move out of the ICU into another part of the hospital, which is representative of what a great recovery it’s been and how quickly it has flipped around. He’s in good spirits and overwhelmed by the support. There is still some treatment and monitoring to go but it’s looking positive.” “His wife Amanda just really wants to say to everyone she is convinced that the love, goodwill and sense of care that they felt from everybody, via messages and via the coverage in the press really helped him. They just feel blessed so many people have wanted to support him in his time in need. He will remain in hospital and continue to receive treatment but the turnaround has been miraculous.’” 2003 World Cup winner Martyn, who was part of the 2003 World Cup-winning Australian team, played in 67 Tests for Australia from 1992 to 2006 and scored 4406 runs at an average of 46.37, including 13 centuries. Martyn also played in 208 ODIs for Australia and scored 5346 runs in the format at an average of 40.80 with five centuries and 37 half-centuries.
