Star Pakistan cricketer Babar Azam is enjoying his time in Australia while playing in the Big Bash League for the Sydney Sixers franchise. Both the team and the fans in Australia have reciprocated the affection, with Sydney Sixers skipper Moises Henriques singing Babar’s praises. This follows the former ODI and T20I world No. 1 batter hitting a half-century in the Sixers’ win over the Melbourne Renegades. After the match, Henriques was asked about Babar’s presence in the team. The broadcaster asked: “There were 27,000 people here today, a lot of them came to see him (Babar Azam) play, even though it’s not a Sydney Sixers home game. What’s it been like to have him as part of the BBL and part of your team?” To which the Sixers skipper replied, “It’s been a really cool experience because he’s actually just a really humble, nice guy, a genuinely nice person to have around the team and the group. “I know a lot of people say that about players when they come in, but given what he’s achieved in world cricket, he brings a whole lot of humility, obvious game smarts, and he’s really nice to talk cricket with,” said Moises Henriques, praising the former Pakistan captain. Henriques added that Babar brings a large fan following with him, noting that a whole section of the Sydney Cricket Ground was reserved just for his supporters. He also expressed hope of converting some of them into Sydney Sixers fans. “I guess the parade that comes around and follows him and we saw tonight when he got his 50, the crowd erupted even though it’s an away game. They’ve got a whole section shut down at the SCG just for Babar fans, so I think he has more fans than the Sixers but hopefully we’ll convert a few of them,” he said. Story continues below this ad The Sixers are struggling in the Big Bash League 2025–26 season, having won only two of their five league games thus far. Their four points place them sixth out of eight teams. All eight BBL sides will play ten games before the top four qualify for the knockout stage.
