The Vice President of the Football Association, Mark Addo, together with the General Secretary, Prosper Harrison Addo,  joined their counterparts from the West African Football Union Zone B (WAFU B) for a meeting with the leadership of the Confederation of African Football (CAF) to review progress and discuss key initiatives aimed at advancing football development in the sub-region.

The high-level engagement took place on the sidelines of the 47th CAF General Assembly, scheduled for Monday, October 6, 2025, and was attended by several prominent figures, including CAF President Dr. Patrice Motsepe, 2nd CAF Vice President Kurt Edwin Simeon-Okraku, WAFU B President Mr. Ibrahim Musa Gusau, CAF General Secretary Véron Mosengo-Omba, and Sarah Makuna, CAF Director for Member Associations.

In his opening remarks, Dr. Motsepe commended WAFU B for its excellent work and reiterated CAF’s commitment to supporting the continued growth and transformation of football across Africa. He emphasized the importance of collaboration and innovation in achieving sustainable progress at both the zonal and national levels.

The meeting reviewed the progress and achievements of CAF and the Zonal Unions in various areas, with particular focus on the WAFU B Zone. Discussions covered  themes such as youth and school football, women’s football development, refereeing and VAR training, coaching education, equipment and infrastructure support.

Each Member Association presented updates and shared perspectives on challenges and opportunities within their respective countries.

Representing Ghana, the GFA delegation highlighted several key priorities, including the slots and format for AFCON qualification from youth competitions within the zone, enhanced development programmes for women’s and youth football, particularly in the areas of coaching and refereeing and the need for expanded competition structures for both boys and girls at the grassroots and elite youth levels.

The fruitful discussions also explored broader areas such as sponsorship and financing, and the infrastructure gap across the region, with participants emphasizing the need for equitable resource distribution and sustainable investment in football facilities.

CAF reaffirmed its strong commitment to work closely with all Member Associations and the leadership of WAFU B to implement practical solutions that address identified challenges and accelerate football growth within the zone.

The meeting concluded with a shared sense of purpose and renewed determination to strengthen collaboration between CAF, WAFU B, and its member associations in pursuit of a more vibrant and competitive football ecosystem in West Africa.
