Referees from across the country take part in a comprehensive training program aimed at sharpening their skills and strengthening officiating standards ahead of the 2025-26 Premier League season, at the Ghanaman Soccer Centre of Excellence

A total of 28 Premier League referees, 28 assistant referees, eight FIFA Women referees and assistants, and 10 “Catch Them Young” officials are participating in the four-day course, which began on September 5 and concludes on September 8, 2025.

The course, which will cover both theoretical and practical aspects of refereeing, will delve into critical areas such as recent amendments to the Laws of the Game, offside rules, handball decisions and managing tactical fouls. Participants will also engage in rigorous sessions focusing on penalty area incidents, positioning, and game management concepts.

The course also involves practical training, with a focus on penalty area movements, positioning and anticipation, and offside scenarios.

In addition to technical training, the program included a fitness endurance check, previously completed, to ensure that all participants meet the rigorous physical demands of officiating at the highest level.

The course also includes daily video and written tests to keep the participants on their toes, ensuring that they absorb and apply their new knowledge effectively.

The training is being led by a team of seasoned experts. Technical instructors include Emmanuel Aglago, Thomas Nunoo and Naa Seidu Bomison, while the fitness modules are overseen by Dr. Tony Tetteh Opai, Vivian Aggor, and Augustina Fugah.

The programme is further supported by Christine Enyonam Ziga, Chairperson of the Referees Committee, alongside committee members W.C. Okai and Jonas Akubiem. Overall facilitation is under the guidance of Alex Kotey, Head of Referees.
