The Presidents and CEOs of clubs in the Malta Guinness Women’s Premier League have commended the GFA and betPawa for extending the Locker Room Bonus initiative to the league for the 2025/26 season.

According to the esteemed club officials, the decision marks a major milestone in promoting equity and professionalism in Ghana’s football landscape.

“This is a commendable step by the GFA and betPawa. For years, we have advocated for equal motivation and incentives for our female footballers, said Prosper Anenyah Ntoso, President of FC Epiphany Warriors.

Extending the Locker Room Bonus to the women’s league sends a strong signal that women’s football is equally valued,” the President said. He further noted that the initiative would directly impact the commitment levels of players and improve matchday competitiveness.

“Players will now know that their performances come with tangible rewards. This will not only increase their hunger to win but also raise the standard of the league. It’s a win for the clubs, the players, and the fans,” he added.

ASP. Naomi Fainusatu Abdulai – Head of Prisons Football team applauded President Kurt Okraku and the Executive Council for the good initiatives and support since 2019 when he took office.

“We couldn’t have reached here without their foresight. We came from a very difficult face of no sponsorship for the Women’s Premier League to Locker Room Bonus for players and some technical staff. This is a story of the current administration that must be told and appreciated by all”.

Jonina Ladies Football Club President, John Obiri Yeboah, also expressed his heartfelt appreciation to the GFA under the visionary leadership of President Kurt Edwin Simeon-Okraku, and to betPawa, for the bold and progressive decision to extend the Locker Room Bonus to the Malta Guinness Women’s Premier League.

“This singular initiative is yet another testament to President Simeon-Okraku’s unwavering commitment to equity, motivation, and the holistic development of Women’s football in Ghana. His tenure has ushered in transformational policies from enhancing cash bonuses and incentives for players and technical bench members, awarding financial support to all clubs from 1st to 15th position, and investing 80,000 cedis in each Regional Football Association to develop U-15 girls’ teams, to introducing innovative fan engagement concepts like the Happy Hour, and providing essential resources such as boots and footballs. The recent increase in allowances for Premier League clubs to 1M cedis is another clear sign of his dedication to uplifting our game” John Obiri Yeboah said.

“These interventions have not only raised the standard of competition but have also injected pride, professionalism, and tangible reward into our league. For us at Jonina Ladies, this is more than a financial boost; it is a morale lifter that will inspire our players to give their very best week in and week out. We commend President Okraku for his vision and betPawa for their commitment, and we call on other corporate bodies to emulate this shining example. The future of women’s football in Ghana is brighter because of such leadership and partnerships”. he added.

The Locker Room Bonus, previously exclusive to the men’s Premier League, will, for the first time, feature in the Malta Guinness Women’s Premier League when the 2025/26 season kicks off in October.
