MTN Ghana has reaffirmed its long-standing commitment to Ghanaian football following the announcement of a landmark deal to become the headline sponsor of  four national teams — the Black Stars, Black Queens, Black Satellites, Black Starlets and the Elie U-19 Championship — for the next two years.

The partnership, running from September 1, 2025, to August 31, 2027, represents a significant expansion of MTN’s support for the sport, which has spanned more than a decade and touched every level of the game.

“At MTN, we believe in Ghana — in the talent of its youth, in the unmatched power of sports to connect people, inspire hope, and in football’s unique ability to tell a nation’s story to the world,” said MTN Ghana CEO Stephen Blewett during Thursday’s grand announcement.

Blewett recalled MTN’s role in reviving the MTN FA Cup since taking over as headline sponsor in 2011.

“For over a decade, we have been privileged to walk alongside Ghanaian football as the headline sponsor of the MTN FA Cup. Together with the GFA, we have revived one of Ghana’s most historic competitions, creating a stage for young players to dream, to work, and to shine,” he said.

The FA Cup, he noted, has become one of Ghana’s most competitive and unpredictable tournaments, uniting 18 Premier League clubs, 48 Division One sides and 44 Division Two teams in pursuit of a single trophy. Over its last 12 editions, eight different champions have emerged — from Division One side Nania FC’s shock triumph in 2011 under Abedi Pele to second-tier Kick FC’s remarkable run to the 2024/25 final.

“The FA Cup’s magic lies in its unpredictability, fairness, and integrity,” Blewett said. “It offers a level playing field where underdogs can triumph, embodying the empowerment and Can-Do spirit of MTN.”

Beyond the FA Cup, MTN has invested in every tier of Ghanaian football,  sponsoring legendary clubs Asante Kotoko and Hearts of Oak, supporting youth development through initiatives like the MTN Soccer Academy and mobilising fans for historic national team moments, from the Black Stars’ first FIFA World Cup appearance in 2006 to multiple AFCON campaigns.

“MTN Ghana has been, and remains, the single biggest corporate investor in Ghanaian football. And today, we begin an even bigger journey,” Blewett declared.

He described the new agreement with the GFA as “more than a sponsorship,” emphasising its focus on national pride, youth empowerment, gender inclusion, and building a sustainable future for football in Ghana.

“What excites us most is that this partnership is broader and more inclusive than anything we have done before. By embracing all national teams, male and female, junior and senior. we are affirming that every Ghanaian player deserves the opportunity to shine,” he said.

Looking ahead, Blewett set his sights on football’s biggest prize.

“With the 2026 World Cup on the horizon, we are reminded of one truth: Ghana has never lifted that trophy. But that is not a scar — it is a spark. It is the fire that drives us to work harder, to train longer, to dream bigger. Every player who puts on that jersey knows they are writing the next chapter of a story still waiting for its golden page. At MTN Ghana, we want to see Ghana win the World Cup. That is our dream, our mission, and our commitment.”

Blewett concluded with a pledge to give Ghana’s national teams “every possible advantage , the resources, the preparation, the exposure and the unwavering support needed to go all the way.”
