Barcelona are working to invest wisely in the summer transfer window to improve their squad. Hansi Flick’s team secured an impressive domestic treble in the recently concluded season.
Meanwhile, the Catalans have suffered a setback in their efforts to secure the services of Luis Diaz. Elsewhere, Wojciech Szczesny is all set to sign a new deal at Camp Nou.
On that note, let’s look at the major Barcelona transfer stories from June 6, 2025.
Liverpool have turned down Barcelona’s proposal to sign Luis Diaz this summer, according to The Athletic. The Colombian forward was a key ingredient in the Reds’ Premier League triumph this season.
The Catalans, meanwhile, are in the market for a new left-forward and have identified Diaz as their preferred target. The 28-year-old has registered 17 goals and eight assists from 50 games across competitions for the Merseyside club this season.
The LaLiga champions are pleased with his efforts and reached out to Liverpool earlier this week to discuss the possibilities of a deal. However, the Premier League champions were quick to inform Barcelona that Diaz is not for sale.
Wojciech Szczesny is close to committing his future to Barcelona, according to journalist Tomasz Wlodarczyk. The Polish custodian came out of retirement last October to help the Catalans deal with Marc-Andre ter Stegen’s injury.
Szczesny went on to become a regular between the sticks for the LaLiga champions, registering 14 clean sheets in 30 games. However, the 35-year-old’s contract expires at the end of this month. The impending arrival of Joan Garcia from Espanyol has further raised doubts about his future.
Barcelona were engaged in talks regarding a renewal for a while, and a breakthrough has now been reached. Szczesny will sign a new two-year deal with the club in the coming days.
Julian Alvarez’s agent, Fernando Hidalgo, has kept the door open for a possible move to Barcelona in the future. The Argentine striker enjoyed a tremendous debut campaign with Atletico Madrid after arriving from Manchester City last summer.
Alvarez registered 29 goals and seven assists from 54 games across competitions this season. Recent reports have suggested that he has been identified as a possible successor for Robert Lewandowski at Camp Nou.
However, speaking on El Chiringuito as cited by SPORT, Hidalgo added that Los Rojiblancos are not planning to let him go at the moment.
He continued:
Robert Lewandowski’s contract with the Catalans expires in 2026, and he is due to turn 37 in a couple of months.

Inspired by Diego Maradona, Deepungsu played as an attacking midfielder for his local club at subdivision level in his initial years and scored an important goal or two. However, his all-time favorite footballer is Lionel Messi, and evidently, he feels Argentina’s glory in 2022 is his favorite FIFA World Cup moment for fulfilling his long-standing dream. He is also an ardent East Bengal fan.
Deepungsu has been a Manchester United supporter since the year 2000. Unsurprisingly, his favorite manager is Sir Alex Ferguson and the Scotsman helped him get through some of the toughest days of his life. Like the fiery Scot, Deepungsu also leaves no stone unturned when it comes to accuracy in articles and only relies on credible sources.
Despite believing in Kylian Mbappe and Erling Haaland to create an iconic rivalry, Deepungsu reckons no one can match the longevity of Messi and Ronaldo. He spends his leisure time writing about life on his blog, reading books, and playing the guitar.
