India’s former Test captain Virat Kohli retired from Test cricket on May 12, 2025, at the age of 36, bringing down the curtain on a 14-year career in the longest format. Across 123 matches, he accumulated 9,230 runs at an average of 46.85, including 30 centuries and 31 half-centuries, with a career-best of 254 not out.
Among his 30 Test hundreds, seven were double centuries, each of them scored against top-ranked opposition on Indian soil.
These are Virat Kohli’s 3 highest scores in Test cricket:
3. 235 vs England, Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai, 2016
At the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai, Kohli walked in at No. 4 and constructed one of the most dominant innings of his Test career against England in the 4th Test of their 2016 tour of India. Facing 340 balls on December 8, 2016, he struck 25 fours and 1 six on his way to 235, helping India post a first-innings total of 631. The result was a victory by an innings and 36 runs, and that win gave India a 3-0 lead in the five-match series with two games still remaining. Kohli became the first Indian to score three double centuries in a single calendar year in 2016, and this innings was central to that achievement.
