Brad Ausmus was in the Houston Astros’ offices at Daikin Park on Thursday, the day before Houston hired Randy Flores as general manager. The New York Yankees’ bench coach and a former Astros catcher was interviewing for the GM job that went to Flores on Friday.
The club has not confirmed the visit or its purpose. Flores holds his introductory news conference Monday, and filling the manager’s chair is the first task in front of him.
That chair has been open since Oct. 14, when Joe Espada’s contract was not renewed, two weeks after the Chicago White Sox swept Houston out of the Wild Card Series. The Houston Astros went 81-81 and still won the AL West.
