Gaddafi Stadium, Lahore, was the setting for a disciplinary ruling on November 2, 2026, when the ICC confirmed that Pakistan had been penalised following the ODI Tri-Series final played there on October 31 against Sri Lanka.

The side was found to have completed its overs one short of the required rate even after all applicable time allowances were taken into account, triggering a 5% match-fee deduction for every member of the playing group and the Player Support Personnel. The relevant provision is Article 2.22 of the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel.

Ahsan Raza and Wayne Knights stood as the on-field umpires, Sharfuddoula Ibne Shahid filled the third-umpire role, and Rashid Riaz was the fourth umpire. Pakistan captain Shaheen Shah Afridi accepted the proposed sanction and entered a guilty plea, which meant the matter was resolved without a formal hearing.

The penalty arrived on the same day Pakistan celebrated winning the ODI Tri-Series title. Chasing 326 set by Sri Lanka, Pakistan reached 331 for 7 in 48.3 overs to win by three wickets with nine balls remaining. Afridi himself struck the decisive six to finish the chase. Fakhar Zaman anchored the innings with 127 off 99 balls, hitting 11 fours and 6 sixes in what was his 12th ODI century.

Lower in the order, Arafat Minhas made 61 off 31 balls and combined with Hasan Nawaz, who finished unbeaten on 37, in a sixth-wicket stand of 94 runs that carried Pakistan over the line. The ICC Men’s World Cup context linked to this tournament’s broader scheduling was not part of the administrative ruling and could not be verified from the supplied evidence.

What does this penalty establish for Pakistan in the tournament?

The Lahore final was not Pakistan’s first slow over-rate offence in the 2026 ODI Tri-Series. In the tournament opener at Rawalpindi on October 18, also against Sri Lanka, Pakistan fell two overs short of the required rate and were docked 10% of their match fee on that occasion.

The ruling from the final therefore confirmed Pakistan’s second slow over-rate violation within the same competition. Because Article 2.22 applies a per-over penalty, the single-over shortfall in Lahore attracted a 5% deduction compared with the 10% levied for the two-over deficit at Rawalpindi.

With Afridi accepting the charge and agreeing to the sanction without contest, no formal hearing before a judicial commissioner is required. The penalty takes immediate administrative effect, and the case is considered settled at the match-referee level.

The ICC’s process under the relevant Code of Conduct provision allows a captain to resolve a slow over-rate charge in precisely this manner. No further disciplinary proceedings are scheduled in connection with the October 31 final, and the matter is now closed.
