Chelsea Janes said the Mets’ pursuit of Tarik Skubal would be decided by Steve Cohen’s appetite, not the front office’s usual model. The SNY insider said she could not tell how far the owner would go, but that his effort would equal the team’s.
Janes reported on a club owned by Steve Cohen and run by president of baseball operations David Stearns. Skubal won the 2024 and 2025 American League Cy Young Awards with the Detroit Tigers and was traded to the Los Angeles Dodgers at the 2026 deadline. He was set to become a free agent after the season.
Janes spoke on SNY’s Baseball Night in New York, where she followed Skubal’s market through October.
